Gerhard Hein retires from VDMA laser processing group

Gerhard Hein has retired as head of the VDMA Laser and Laser Systems for Material Processing group after almost 40 years of working for the association.

He is replaced by Dr Moritz Förster, who has been working for the association since January 2019. Förster studied chemistry at Goethe University in Frankfurt and conducted research on quantum chemistry during his doctoral studies.

Hein joined the VDMA in 1980 as part of the VDMA Precision Tools group. Since 1991 he has been responsible for the Economics and Statistics Department of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Systems within the VDMA and VDW.

Hein has also been in charge of the representative office of the machine tool sector in China. In this function he established the biannual China Machine Tool Management Meetings (CMM), which are well received by the local subsidiaries of VDW members and have become an integral part of the association's work in China.

Additionally, from 1991, Hein was managing director of the Laser and Laser Systems for Material Processing working group, and has been responsible for the VDMA Photonics Forum since 2002. Förster took over the Photonics Forum in January 2020.
