Jenoptik revamps automotive business in North America

Photonics group Jenoptik has revamped its automotive business in North America by relocating to a new building on a modern, sixteen-acre engineering campus in Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA. The move marks the beginning of a new era for the company, with the building harbouring Jenoptik's production, sales and service for both industrial metrology and laser processing systems. The site became fully operational on 15 May.

Covering an area of 100,000 square feet, the building is almost twice as large as the company’s previous facility, and meets the latest standards for production environments. The facility will also exceed USA and local environmental standards by being equipped with modern energy-efficient systems and materials, including the latest sensor-controlled LED lighting and special energy-saving HVAC systems.

‘In our expanded laser application centre, we will be able to demonstrate and perform feasibility studies, application-specific competencies, as well as cutting and welding services directly on-site,’ commented Andreas Blind, vice president of sales, services and marketing.

In this first expansion phase, the facility will devote approximately 50 per cent of its total square footage to production, with further expansion options available later on for other Jenoptik activities. In 2016, Jenoptik generated around 20 per cent of its revenue – €135 million – in America. The company employs about 270 staff in the USA in total.
