Cobra

Electrox Laser has launched Cobra, its first high-speed CO2 coding laser, which offers improved performance and versatility when coding on fast-moving production lines.

Cobra represents Electrox’s first foray into high-speed packaging applications, extending the company’s portfolio to ‘on-the-fly’ coding to meet the demands of a number of industries including food & beverages, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.  The Cobra will mark up to 2,500 characters per second on line speeds of up to 300 metres per minute, achieving consistent legibility even on such high output.

The use of CO2 laser coding will provide sectors such as packaging and industrial goods a clear and superior mark in comparison to the traditionally favoured inkjet marking process.  With no need for consumables such as ink – which can be messy and expensive – Cobra offers drastically reduced maintenance downtime, gives cleaner, more environmentally friendly results and offers lower long-term cost of ownership.

Cobra is designed to handle a variety of code types, including ‘Best Before’ or ‘Use By’ codes, barcodes, DataMatrix, and QR codes. Amongst the substrates onto which the Cobra can code are plastics, glass, and paper, giving the Cobra CO2 laser real versatility in terms of coding many of the commonly used packaging formats on bottling and packing lines.

Available in 10 and 30 watt versions, the Cobra laser is also suitable for cutting, scoring, perforating and slitting flexible film, foil and other materials, in addition to coding and high resolution marking.
